Trustee Training

The Charities Act 2011 defines “charity trustees” as the persons having the general control and management of the administration of a charity. (Also called “committee member”).

What is a "trustee"?

Charity Trustee (Committee Member) Training.

Whether your committee runs a social club, rugby club, school PTA, playgroup or any other charity, a committee is only as effective as the committee members. It is the responsibility of each member to administer the business of their committee efficiently and on time. This can only be achieved if each member has a clear understanding of their role and responsibilities, as well as the role and responsibilities of others, and how to conduct themselves appropriately in any meeting.

Training

Our training packages are bespoke to your specific needs and will introduce your new members to their role of working to your Governing document so that they can confidently take part in meetings and make a valuable contribution to the routine business of your committee. It also serves as an ideal refresher for longer-serving members.

Location

Each course is structured to a time, date, and location specific to your needs, and can take place either at your premises (keeping down costs) or at a suitable venue nearby.

Timing

We understand that many trustees have ‘day jobs’ so we can deliver courses for evenings/weekends as well as for daytime sessions.

Here are just some examples of what a basic 4-hour course could include, although each course is specific to your needs:

  • Introduction to a working Board/Committee and how does it govern?

  • What is a trustee?

  • Governance/Governing document (Constitution/Standing Orders etc.)

  • Roles and Responsibilities

  • Board/Committee meetings

  • Efficiency - effective meetings, planning meetings and getting the job done

  • Effective fund-raising

  • GDPR - an understanding

  • Public speaking

  • Grant applications

  • Working with the press to your advantage

  • The Do and Do not's of using social media

Whether You Run The School PTA...

Costs

All of our fees are calculated on your specific requirements and can start from as little as £50 per delegate.

In-house Training

It may be more practical for us to come to you, and run the course on your premises. This will also keep your costs down.

The fees include all of the material, training notes and an extremely useful 'Aide Memoire' for delegates to keep, as well as refreshments on the half-day course and refreshments and a buffet lunch on a full-day course.

We charge reasonable travelling costs on all training.

Our Course Directors all have a great deal of first-hand experience on their subject matter, having served for many years on Boards of Trustees, Charity Committees, Parish, District and County Councils, and often in a senior/executive position.
